One of the first things you will need for birdwatching is an identification guide. One of the best guides for bird identification is The Sibley Guide to Birds.

The American Ornithologists' Union

Founded in 1883, AOU publishes the quarterly journal called "The Auk" along with numerous other publications.

American Birding Association

One of the best birding sites on the internet. The organization covers all aspects of birding.

National Audubon Society

Covers news, conservation issues and how to contact your local chapter.

The North American Bluebird Society

Established for the preservation of bluebirds. Information on starting a "Bluebird Trail" along with nest box plans, fact sheets and range maps. Also has an online store for purchasing various items such as books, houses, videos etc.

National Wildlife Federation

Besides information on conservation of wildlife, there's information on how to get your backyard certified as a wildlife habitat. Magazines and take-action newsletters are available along with an online store.

Purple Martin Conservation Association

Committed to the survival of Purple Martins. Has an online store where you can purchase various items including an excellent trap house for English Sparrows or House Sparrows and European Starlings.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology
