Northern Flicker (Intergrade)
Northern Flicker Video Clips
Intergrade flickers are a cross between a Red-shafted Northern Flicker and a Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker. The above male has red malar stripes which are a characteristic of male Red-shafted flickers. He also has the red nape crescent which is a characteristic of male Yellow-shafted flickers. Along with this, he has the yellow-shafts common to the Yellow-shafted flickers.
(Female with Red Nape Crescent & Red Shafts)
This Northern Flicker female Intergrade has a red nape crescent and red shafts. The red nape crescent is characteristic of a female Yellow-shafted Flicker, while the red shafts are obviously a Red-shafted Flicker characteristic.
(Female with No Red Nape & Yellow Shafts)
Above is another female Intergrade Flicker. Notice she does not have the red nape crescent which is a characteristic of a female Yellow-shafted Flicker. However, because she has yellow shafts, not red, she falls into the Intergrade classification.
