Watch the female Red Crossbill prying apart the hemlock cone scales and extracting the seeds with her spoon-tipped tongue. While hanging upside down, she holds the hemolock cone with her thick leg. She also uses her bill like a leg to cling to the tips of the branches. This video was recorded on April 2, 2005 at 9:11 AM in Waldport, Oregon.
